Paige Kimble, Executive Director of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, spoke at Sahasra Deepika’s Leaders Light the Way brunch in Arlington on April 29th. Ms. Kimble, who visited Sahasra Deepika in 2017, spoke on the topic of “Words and Why They Matter.” She noted that while English has become the lingua franca for the world, those with lack access to a good education, or living in abject poverty are left out. While there are many ways of addressing this problem, she stated, “It’s the organizations that are committed to long-term human interaction and investment who are making the most difference. Sahasra Deepika, with its long-term commitment to the holistic care and development of girls, is one of the difference makers.”
“Bee the Future,” Sahasra Deepika’s new film about the 2016 Spelling Bee, was premiered at the program. This short documentary was received with great enthusiasm. Scripps National Spelling Bee has invited Priyanka, the champion featured in the film, to attend Bee Week in May–a great milestone for Sahasra Deepika’s Outreach Program.
