Outreach Program
The Outreach Program
English tutoring for underserved high school students in Bangalore
For 11 years, the Sahasra Deepika Outreach Program brought English tutoring to 2500 9the standard students who attend Kannada language, government high schools in low-income areas of Bangalore. The program enriched the student’s basic English proficiency, equipping them for greater success in a global economy. The top students in the program participated in a unique Spelling Bee Contest at the end of the program for scholarships and recognition. Since inception, we’ve reached over 15,000 students and helped them build confidence, poise and fluency. Priyanka, the winner in 2016, was invited to attend the Scripps National Spelling Bee in the USA as a spectator in 2018, representing Sahasra Deepika and India.
Our award-winning film Bee the Future, below, captures the excitement of our Outreach Program. Due to the devastating global pandemic, the 2020-2021 program was cancelled. We hope to resume this rewarding, life-changing program in the future once COVID-19 is behind us and schools have fully reopened.
Bee The Future
Sahasra Deepika is proud to present “Bee the Future,” a film about the 2016 Spelling Bee. ‘Bee The Future’ showcases Sahasra Deepika’s Outreach program for disadvantaged children from Bangalore’s poorest schools. The program culminates in a spelling bee. The winner of the Bee is granted a college scholarship and a chance for a bright future. The audience holds their breath as they witness the longest and most intense competition in the spelling bee history, which will change the life of the winner forever.
