15th Anniversary Celebration in Bangalore
Over 250 guests gathered on the Sahasra Deepika Institute for Education campus to celebrate Sahasra Deepika’s 15th anniversary. The ten students who graduated this year were congratulated by the Chief Guests: former Chief Justice of India Honorable M.N. Venkatachalaiah; Karnataka High Court Justice Ram Mohan Reddy, and ex-MLA and President of the Karnataka Bar Association, Mr. K.N. Subba Reddy. All of the speakers expressed their admiration for the selfless dedication of the founders who have built the organization from the grassroots level. 10 Seniors Graduate
Sahasra Deepika achieved a major milestone this spring. Our ten senior students, all girls, passed the SSLC exam with flying colors. Two students, Jayashree and Mamtha, achieved First Class with Distinction; five other girls achieved First Class. This was our biggest graduating class to date. All of the girls have been placed in pre-university college or vocational school and we are so proud of their accomplishments!
4th Annual Spelling Bee
Over the past few months, the Sahasra Deepika Outreach Program has worked with 1800 students from 12 government high schools around Bangalore to help them improve their English skills. On February 9th, the 2012-2013 program ended with the 4th Annual Spelling Bee Contest at Hombegowda High School. Dawood Ibrahim, a 9th standard student from Gottigere Government High School emerged victorious by spelling “dermatology.” Dawood received a scholarship for pre-university. Additionally, the top 4 finishers were given Suphaalam’s SmartPad 7 tablets loaded with Smart Learning Suite software. Sahasra Deepika a Winner in Chase Giving
After all the votes were counted, Sahasra Deepika was named one of the top 196 charities in the Chase Community Giving 2012 contest and will receive a grant of $10,000! We are grateful to our friends from around the world who took the time to vote on Facebook and show their support for our mission.
5th Graders Give Back
The 5th grade class at Windermere Preparatory School in Orlando, Florida dedicated this year’s Touchpoints Fundraiser to the children of Sahasra Deepika. They held bake sales, competed in walkathons and sold homemade crafts to raise over $4600. “I was very impressed with the ingenuity all of our students showed to raise money for Sahasra Deepika along with their dedication and determination. The connection that each student has towards the success of the Institute coupled with their desire to help others allowed them to succeed; proving that no matter how young one may be they can make a positive difference in
