Snehotsava: Festival of Love

by Feb 14, 2015Blog

Sahasra Deepika, being a foundation that helps children in Bangalore achieve their dreams, became the apple of the eye for a few fundraisers at the time. Recently, two young women from a nearby community held a fundraiser for Sahasra Deepika called Snehetsava, which means special love.

The program took place in an amphitheater in the Classic Orchards community in Bangalore. Several people in the community regularly volunteer at Sahasra Deepika, including trustees Vaishali Khandekar, Arun Kumar PR,and Rajalakshmi Natarajan.

Anjali, 16, who has taught dance to the girls at Sahasra Deepika before, and her friend Veda came up with the idea for the program.

It began with lighting of the lamp by Sahasra Deepika founders T.V. and Vijaya Ramakrishna. A group of senior girls from Sahasra Deepika performed a dance, Aiyigiri Nandini, to open the show.
The program was entrancing. The dancers, all extremely talented young women, performed Kathak and Bharatnatyam styles of classical Indian dance. A highlight was the Bharatnatyam-Kathak Jugalbandi, choreographed by Anjali and Veda.
We also enjoyed two other dancers, Priyanka and Subhashini, who had amazing expressions on her face as she told the story of Krishna.

After the free program, guests gathered for dinner. We are so grateful to the members of the Classic Orchards community for this wonderful initiative and successful fundraiser!
