9th Annual Spelling Bee: “incessant” wins the day!

“It was with excitement when Sahasra Deepika announced the winner of their annual spelling bee contest. It was a great moment for all of the children who participated in the event since it was a day full of fun and learning. Also, the prizes for the event were something that the children will really find useful for their education. ”

All eyes were on the stage at Hombegowda Boys High School in Bangalore as students from government schools around the city competed in Sahasra Deepika’s 9th Annual Spelling Bee Contest. The 9th standard contestants all hail from Kannada medium schools. The contest gives them an opportunity to improve their English fluency while vying for a college scholarship. The finals saw classmates from Maragondanahalli High School, Varuna, and Namratha, fighting it out for 1st place. After correctly spelling ‘incessant,’ Varuna took home the prize. 3rd place went to Tasleem from Doddagollanahatti High School; 4th place went to Sujatha from Subhash Chandra Bose High School. The program was moderated by Dr. G. Sridhar. We are grateful to the judges, trustees, and volunteers who made this a successful event.
