Volunteer

Inspire the next generation and support Sahasra Deepika! Many volunteer opportunities are available in the US and India. Assist with an event, spread the word about our work. Connect your youth or school group with our students. Together we can help more children achieve!

Youth Leadership

Sahasra Deepika has worked with students at several schools around the USA to promote friendship, cross-cultural understanding, and an awareness of gender issues that impact the lives of girls from diverse backgrounds. Some of the programs we’ve partnered with include the Girls Leadership Council of Lower Merion and Harriton High Schools in suburban Philadelphia; Dominion High School in Sterling, Virginia, and GIVE Project in Chicago. Please view their 2015 White House Student Film Festival entry which won Honorable Mention and features our students. We welcomes inquiries from similar youth organizations and school groups in the U.S. and abroad. If your program is interested in developing a relationship with Sahasra Deepika, please contact us.

Youth Ambassadors Program

Sahasra Deepika’s Youth Ambassadors Program gives talented, service-minded high school students a unique opportunity to use their leadership skills and talents for a great cause. Through film, blogging, public speaking, and more, these exceptional young women raise awareness not only of Sahasra Deepika’s mission, but larger issues of gender equality, poverty and cultural understanding.

Sahasra Deepika College Internship Program

This virtual internship provides an opportunity for bright and purposeful college students to share the story of Sahasra Deepika through social media, blogs, newsletters, and other channels. We are pleased to have two exceptional inaugural Youth Ambassadors: Neha Mukherjee and Shanthi Ramakrishna. Both were Youth Ambassadors while in high school.
***Due to COVID-19, we are not accepting applications for the Youth Ambassador Program and the 2021 College Internship Program. Please check back with us in early 2021.

Neha

Neha

SD Youth Ambassador

Hi! My name is Neha Mukherjee. I am 17 years old and live in suburban Philadelphia in the United States. I am beyond honored to be a Youth Ambassador for the Sahara Deepika Foundation. Girl’s education is one of today’s most pressing issues. Bringing a strong foundation of not only education, but also of love, strength, and compassion to young girls is so important for both their futures and our world’s future as a whole. I am so grateful that I get to be a part of connecting girls around the world to become independent and empowered.

Shanthi

Shanthi

SD Youth Ambassador

Namaste! My name is Shanthi. I am 16 years old, I live in Orlando, Florida, and my name means peace. Ever since I can remember, I have been told of the significance within the meaning of my name, and now, I want to live up to the meaning through action. Being a Youth Ambassador for Sahasra Deepika allows me to campaign for a more peaceful society through girls empowerment and gender equality, and it also blesses me with the opportunity to learn from my sisters across the ocean. As a Youth Ambassador, I will take firm action towards showing as many people as I can the power of one girl to cast a countless amount of light into the lives of others.
