5th Annual Spelling Bee Contest

After tutoring 1500 students from 14 government high schools around Bangalore, Sahasra Deepika’s 5th annual Outreach Program came to a close on February 8, 2014 with our Spelling Bee Contest. Shivani GD, a 9th standard student from Honnaganna Hatti High School, emerged victorious after 14 intense rounds of competition. The top 4 winners were given tablet computers from Suphaalam PVT which will certainly help them in their future stuides. Founders Named 2013 Purpose Prize Fellows

The founders of Sahasra Deepika, T.V. and Vijaya Ramakrishna, have been named 2013 Purpose Prize Fellows by Encore.org. “Purpose Prize fellows are using their passion and experience to help solve some of society’s toughest problems,” said Marc Freedman, founder and CEO of Encore.org and author of The Big Shift. “They represent a growing wave of people in their 60s and beyond who are using their know-how to change the world, while shifting perceptions of what is possible in this stage of life.” A panel of 21 judges – leaders in business, politics, politics, journalism and the nonprofit sector – selected the seven winners and 43 Purpose Prize Fellows from a pool of over 1000 nominees. “We are deeply honored by this recognition of our work, and wish to share our joy with all of those who have supported us through the years,” said Dr. Ramakrishna.    ...

15th Anniversary Celebration in Bangalore

  Over 250 guests gathered on the Sahasra Deepika Institute for Education campus to celebrate Sahasra Deepika’s 15th anniversary. The ten students who graduated this year were congratulated by the Chief Guests: former Chief Justice of India Honorable M.N. Venkatachalaiah; Karnataka High Court Justice Ram Mohan Reddy, and ex-MLA and President of the Karnataka Bar Association, Mr. K.N. Subba Reddy. All of the speakers expressed their admiration for the selfless dedication of the founders who have built the organization from the grassroots level. The guests enjoyed performances by the children, and speeches by three of the 2013 graduates—Jayashree, Chaitra and Sharada, who now study at Christ University in Bangalore. Jayashree, who topped her class, was awarded a High Achiever scholarship by Brady Company India Pvt. Ltd. The smiles and enthusiasm of the children touched the hearts of all assembled for the occasion.
